THERE MAY BE HOPE ON THE HORIZON.

It is hoped this study will result in a convenient medication option that stays effective around-the-clock during storm season.

What to expect

If you enroll your dog in this placebo-controlled study, you will be provided with either the test medication or a placebo (a pill with no medication in it) to give to your dog twice daily, 12 hours apart, for about 3 months during the typical thunderstorm season in your area.

During that time, you’ll be asked to monitor your dog carefully and record any abnormalities in your dog’s health or behavior as well as how your dog responds to thunderstorms.

You’ll need to make up to four visits to the investigator site: one each at the beginning and end of the study with your dog; plus, one or two without your dog to pick up medication, depending on how your dog responds to treatment. You’ll also have a few phone calls with the site between the visits to report how your dog is doing.

If your dog is enrolled, you may opt out at any time, but we hope you will allow your dog to participate until study completion (approximately 90 days). By keeping your dog on study until completion, your valuable data can be presented to FDA and have the greatest potential to benefit dogs in the future.

The first step is to confirm if there’s a veterinary investigator site near you. If you believe your dog also meets the eligibility criteria here, complete this questionnaire, and you will be put in touch with the investigator site in your area.
