If your dog experiences extreme fear or anxiety caused by thunderstorms, we hope you’ll reach out to us about enrolling your dog in this important study.

If there’s an investigator site near you, and your dog meets the criteria below, please complete the prescreening questionnaire.

PARTICIPATING DOGS MUST:

  • Weigh at least 8.8 pounds (4 kg)
  • Be healthy or have a stable systemic disease (as determined by the investigator)
  • Be pain-free for at least two weeks prior to enrollment
  • Meet certain other criteria that will be reviewed with you by the clinical investigator

Dogs cannot participate if they:

 

  • Are pregnant or intended for breeding
  • Are aggressive towards people or other dogs in your home, or have a history of aggression
  • Are participating in another clinical study
  • Have epilepsy or have taken epilepsy medication in the 6 months prior to enrollment
  • Have generalized fear to the extent they are rarely relaxed
  • Received any behavior-modifying drugs or therapies in the 14 days prior to enrollment (including CBD, pheromones, homeopathic treatments, special diets, or nutraceuticals)
  • Received behavior modification treatment for noise phobia during the past 12 months (such as desensitization or counter-conditioning)
  • Have history of certain diseases (such as liver, kidney, heart, gastro-intestinal, and others), which in the opinion of the investigator could interfere with the study results
  • Belong to an employee or family member of an employee of a participating veterinary practice

ADDITIONAL RESTRICTIONS:

  • Only one dog per household may participate in the study
  • During the study, owners may not:
    • Use any other type of treatment for noise phobia
    • Board participating dogs if at all possible and, if necessary, no more than 3 days

OWNER OBLIGATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Maintain your dog’s usual diet and feeding routine
  • Give medication daily as instructed, recording each time
  • Keep a record of your dog’s behavior during thunderstorms and note the thunderstorm’s characteristics
  • Monitor your dog for and record any adverse events
  • Take your dog to the investigator clinic at least twice (at the beginning and end of the study), as well as up to 2 visits without your dog, and up to 2 phone calls with the clinic between visits
  • Monitor your dog for and record any health or behavior abnormalities
